Looking for a dog photographer in the SF Bay Area who captures the true essence of your pup? You're in the right place. I specialize in pet photography in Oakland, San Francisco, and beyond, working with rescue organizations, pet parents, and dog lovers who want authentic, heartfelt portraits.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure (read: total madness) of photographing three tiny hurricanes disguised as puppies over at Rocket Dog Rescue in Oakland. They’re known as the ABC litter: Al (brindle), Bob (black), and Chuck (brown) which sounds less like a boy band and more like the cast of a forgotten ‘80s sitcom. Think: mismatched roommates, a lot of falling over furniture, and a laugh track every time someone steals a slipper.
Let’s get one thing straight: these guys are rowdy. They’ve got two speeds, zoom and nap, and they only nap when they’ve completely destroyed all available camera angles and smeared enough puppy nose-prints on my lens to qualify as modern art. Physically, they’re... let’s call it compact. If a pitbull and a dachshund met at a party, shared snacks, and left with matching tattoos, you might end up with something like this crew. They’re short, stocky, and shockingly talented at climbing up your leg like it’s a tree trunk, especially if you’re holding treats. I’m still recovering.
Here’s a quick character breakdown:
Al: Bold, very sweet, and so photogenic. He’s also my personal favorite (don’t tell the others) my own dog is brindle too, so I’m contractually obligated to love him more.
Bob: Classic middle child energy. Likes to photobomb, steal toys, and is possibly made of springs..
Chuck: The brown one with soulful eyes who was mostly sniffing around and judging his brothers, hard. But don't be fooled by his calmness, he's a loud one!
The shoot was pure comedy. Another volunteer and I spent most of our time just trying to catch a shot in the middle of the madness. One pup would finally glance my way, and the other two would take that exact moment to start sprinting in circles, chasing invisible targets, or trying to climb my leg for treats. These three are more than ready to bring a little joyful craziness into someone’s home. If you're in the Bay Area and want to meet them, check them out at Rocket Dog Rescue. And yes, pants are recommended..
Looking for a dog photographer who loves pups of all shapes, sizes, and stories? Volunteering with rescue dogs is one of my favorite parts of this work, it’s a chance to capture their spirit just as they are, full of energy and hope. Great photos can help these amazing pups get noticed and find homes faster. It’s rewarding, fun, and a wonderful way to give back to the community.
