Tucker Was Already Cute. The Flower Crown Was Overkill.
Tucker is one of those dogs that is oh so cute, but also looks slightly made up. Tiny, stocky, insanely muscular, and somehow shaped like a bully breed, a low rider, and mr universe all at once.
During our photo session at the Rocket Dog Rescue sanctuary in Oakland, he wore a flower crown that honestly felt unnecessary because he is already offensively adorable on his own. The crown just pushed things over the edge.
He made tiny little noises the entire time, somewhere between squeaks, snorts, grumbles, and very strong opinions. One second he looked like a delicate woodland creature, the next like a tiny bodybuilder demanding snacks immediately.
And somehow, despite the flowers, he still looked tough.
Photographing Personality Instead of Perfect Poses
This is one of the things I love most about dog photography, especially when working with adoptable dogs around the San Francisco Bay Area. Personalities show up fast once dogs feel comfortable enough to just be themselves.
Tucker did not need elaborate posing or endless direction. He was expressive, hilarious, cuddly, and completely himself from the start. He is 1000% the kind of dog that makes strangers stop mid-conversation to ask about him.
For me, the best dog portraits are never about perfection. They are about capturing whatever makes a dog uniquely them. A weird little expression. Tiny noises. Frog legs. Full gremlin energy. And for Tucker specifically, he is missing his lower jaw which means its always #tongueouttuesday for him!
That is also why I keep my sessions relaxed and low-pressure, whether I am photographing shelter dogs or private clients and their pets. Dogs photograph best when they are allowed to exist as their wonderfully strange little selves.
Tucker Is Looking for a Home
Honestly, I have no idea how Tucker is still available for adoption. This sweet boy has been waiting for his family for well over a year. His adoption fee is waived as part of a special campaign helping some of the shelter’s longer-term dogs find families faster.
The first 5 adopters also receive a complimentary "gotchaday session" with me! Flower crown optional. Highly encouraged, though.
Bay Area Dog Photography That Feels Real
I photograph adoptable dogs and private clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, creating personality-filled portraits that feel natural, playful, and true to the dogs themselves.
Whether your dog is elegant, chaotic, dramatic, suspicious of flowers, or shaped like an entirely different species, the goal is always the same. Capture the personality that makes people love them so much in the first place.
