Portraits for wild-hearted dogs

For dogs who don’t do boring

Personality first. Always.

I’m Silke, the photographer behind Feral & Fab Photography. San Francisco dogs have a very specific kind of magic. They hike foggy trails before breakfast, nap in sunbeams that somehow cut through apartment windows like they’re staged, and navigate everything from crowded sidewalks to wide-open beaches like it’s all part of their daily routine. They’re city dogs, trail dogs, beach dogs, and couch philosophers all at once, and I never get tired of watching them.

Sessions are calm but never stiff, I set the direction, your dog decides what to do with it. My goal is simple: I want you to recognize your dog in the photos, not an overly styled version of them. So when you look at them in 15 years, it feels like they’re right there with you again.

And yes , we’ll absolutely get those clean, frame-worthy images too. The kind you actually want on your walls, not just your camera roll.

My go-to San Francisco locations that feel like you and your dog’s actual life together

These are a few of my favorite San Francisco spots, familiar places with great light, good energy, and plenty of space for dogs to do their very important dog things. But it’s always about you and your dog, and I shape everything around your dog so it feels natural, personal, and true to them. If none of these feel quite like you, reach out and we’ll find something that does.

All the session details

Every session is built around your dog, their personality, their energy, and what brings out their best. Even if they’re shy, sensitive, or a little unsure at first. After your shoot, you’ll receive a curated gallery to choose from, with options for prints, wall art, and keepsakes if you want to turn your images into something you actually want to live with (not just forget in your camera roll).

FAQ

My dog is shy, reactive, or a bit chaotic, is that okay?

Yes, totally!

There’s no such thing as a dog that’s “too much” for this. The quirks, the chaos, the shyness, the over-excited energy… that’s what makes them them. My job is to work with who they are, not turn them into something they’re not.

We’ll take things at their pace, keep it relaxed, and make sure they feel comfortable enough to just be themselves. So when you look at them in 15 years, it feels like they’re right there with you again.

How do SF photoshoots work?

San Francisco is basically a playground for photos. I have a few go-to spots that are amazing and always photograph well. You can book these instantly.

If you’re not set on a spot yet, I’ll help you choose based on your dog’s personality and the kind of vibe you want. Whether that’s quiet and open, or a little more iconic and lively. The goal is always the same: a place where your dog can just be themselves, and where the setting feels like you too.

What if my dog gets overwhelmed?

San Francisco can be busy in certain areas, but it also has plenty of quieter corners, open space, and calmer pockets where dogs can settle in and just be themselves. We’re never stuck in one spot if it’s not working.

If your dog needs space, we slow things down, shift locations if needed, and keep everything as low-pressure as possible. The goal is never to push them, it’s to meet them where they are.

What if SF weather is doing its thing?

San Francisco weather is… unpredictable in the best way. Fog, wind, golden light that disappears and comes back again, it’s part of what makes the city so interesting visually.

Most of the time, we embrace it. Fog especially can be incredible for soft, atmospheric images. But if the conditions aren’t great for your dog or it just doesn’t feel right, we’ll adjust or reschedule. However, if you’ve been secretly waiting for your dog’s iconic “main character in the rain” moment, just say the word!

Can I choose more than one location?

Yes, absolutely.

My three SF locations are amazing and my go-to options for instant booking, but you’re not limited to them. If you want to mix things up, include a second spot, or shoot somewhere more personal, we can absolutely make that work.

We can keep it simple or make it a bit more varied, it just depends on what feels right for your dog and the kind of story you want from the session.

Do you create custom artwork or prints?

Yes, and I approach the final images with that in mind from the start.

After your session, you’ll get a curated gallery, and from there you can choose your favourites and turn them into prints, wall art, or keepsakes if you want something more physical and intentional.

A lot of what I create ends up as pieces people actually hang, gift, or keep around their space, not just sit in a camera roll somewhere.

What’s included in a San Francisco session?

Your session includes the photoshoot itself (usually around 2 hours, with flexibility for your dog), guidance throughout so you’re never left wondering what to do, and a curated online gallery with 30+ images to choose from after your shoot.

You’ll then select your favorite images and decide how (or if) you’d like to turn them into prints or artwork.
